No infrastructure for AI machines to autonomously transact, buy data, and hire agents

As AI agents become economic actors needing fast, software-speed money movement for compute, data, and services, there's no dedicated on-chain or payment infra to support this new class of actors.

Build payment rails for AI agents to autonomously buy compute, data, and services at machine speed.

The pain

Today's AI agents hit a wall when they need to transact. They can't move money fast enough to purchase GPU time mid-inference, buy fresh data from providers, or pay human contractors without human approval loops. Every transaction requires traditional banking rails designed for humans, slow, expensive, and incompatible with software-speed decision-making.

The gap

Existing payment infrastructure (ACH, credit cards, even most crypto) assumes human-paced transactions and human identity. There's no system built for: (1) sub-second settlement between non-custodial agents, (2) micropayments for data access, (3) programmatic hiring and payment of human services, (4) cryptographic proof of agent identity and authorization.

Build angle

Start with a specific, high-friction transaction type: AI agents buying compute resources (GPU time, API calls). Build an on-chain settlement layer + escrow system where agents can lock collateral, execute purchases, and settle instantly. Layer in data marketplaces second. Prove unit economics work before expanding to human labor markets.

Strengths

  • Real constraint emerging now, agents are already trying to transact and hitting friction
  • Clear technical solution space (blockchain settlement, smart contracts, oracle-based pricing)
  • Potential to capture value across multiple transaction types (compute, data, services)
  • First-mover advantage in a category that doesn't exist yet
  • Defensible through network effects once agents standardize on your rails

Risks

  • Demand signal is weak, most AI agents today are still centralized and don't autonomously transact
  • Regulatory uncertainty around autonomous agents controlling money and hiring humans
  • Chicken-and-egg problem: need enough agents to make infrastructure valuable, need infrastructure to justify agent autonomy
  • Existing payment providers (Stripe, traditional crypto) may build this faster once demand is proven
  • Technical risk: designing systems that prevent agent-to-agent fraud and collusion at scale
  • Market timing risk: autonomous agents may not reach economic relevance for 2-3 years
