A lightweight, stateless database for agent memory

I've been working on Polign and built a small prototype around something I've been thinking about with agent memory. I have built a lightweight/stateless vector db + BM25 search which works really well with typed facts and structured queries. It uses your own S3, or GCS bucket as primary storage, and restarting a node is fairly quick.Demo + writeup: https://polign.com/blog-edge-agent-memoryLive search demo: https://demo.polign.comDocs: https://polign.com

No signal yet

A lightweight, stateless vector database optimized for agent memory using typed facts and structured queries, storing data on user-controlled cloud buckets.

The pain

Current agent memory solutions are often heavy, stateful, or require complex infrastructure, making them slow to restart and difficult to scale or customize.

The gap

There is a lack of simple, stateless, and lightweight vector databases that integrate easily with existing cloud storage and support structured queries for agent memory use cases.

Build angle

Focus on proving the product’s reliability, performance, and ease of integration with popular cloud storage providers, while validating demand among AI developers building agent-based systems.

Strengths

  • Stateless design reduces operational complexity and improves restart times.
  • Integration with user-owned cloud storage (S3, GCS) lowers hosting costs and increases data control.
  • Combination of vector search and BM25 for typed facts supports richer, structured queries.
  • Lightweight prototype already exists with demos and documentation.

Risks

  • Market adoption risk: unclear if AI developers prefer this over existing vector DBs or agent memory solutions.
  • Technical risk: performance and scalability under real-world loads need validation.
  • Competitive risk: many established vector DBs and memory frameworks exist with strong ecosystems.
  • Product-market fit risk: the specific niche of agent memory may be too narrow or not urgent enough.
