Nub – A Bun-like all-in-one toolkit for Node.js
Colin here, creator of Nub. I’ve had the general shape of this in mind for years. Nub runs your code with stock `node`, augmented with a `--require` preload hook[0] that adds a transpiler (oxc-powered, packaged as a Node-API add-on), registers a module resolution hook[1], and injects polyfills as needed for APIs like `Worker`, `Temporal`, etc. All purely additive, your code ultimately runs using Node’s actual engine & stdlib implementations.[0] https://nodejs.org/api/cli.html#-require-module[1] https://nodejs.org/api/module.html#moduleregisterhooksoption...

Nub is an all-in-one Node.js toolkit that transparently adds modern features and polyfills via a preload hook without replacing Node’s core engine.

Strengths
- Leverages native Node.js hooks for minimal intrusion
- Adds modern JS features and polyfills transparently
- Uses a performant transpiler (oxc-powered) as a native add-on
- Appeals to Node.js developers wanting cutting-edge features without runtime forks
Risks
- Niche audience limited to advanced Node.js users
- Potential compatibility issues with future Node.js versions or native modules
- Performance overhead or bugs introduced by hooks and polyfills
- Unclear differentiation from existing tools like Bun or swc-based setups

BreezePDF – Free, in-browser PDF editor
BreezePDF lets you edit, sign, merge, compress, redact, OCR, fill forms, extract tables, and use 30+ more PDF tools — all in the browser, no sign-up. Files never leave your computer.I built it because when people search Google for common PDF tasks, many of the tools they find upload documents to a server. I wanted an option that keeps files local instead.I posted an earlier version on HN last spring: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43880962At the time it only supported a small set of features. Over the last 10 months I rebuilt large parts of it and expanded it to nearly 40 tools, including several ideas that came from comments in that earlier thread. There is also now a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, plus a CLI/SDK for developers.
