I built a new version of my fun spatial 3D online meeting app
Hi HN!flat.social is a fun spatial online meeting app for remote teams and communities. It's largely built like a web multiplayer game, and the 3D virtual spaces are highly customisable with elements and activities (I recently added surfing!).Live demo to try it out: https://app.flat.social/f/demo-flatHere's a quick demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeinBNqL23sIt's a solo, bootstrapped project built with Three.js, LiveKit and Rapier for physics. I built the first version during the pandemic and posted it here back then: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31833415I had a couple of months off this year, so I locked myself in an (almost) jungle house in Brazil and rebuilt it into what I've always wanted it to be.Would love to hear what you think!

Strengths
- Founder has already shipped twice and iterated based on feedback
- Technical stack is modern and appropriate for the problem
- Product appears polished with novel features like surfing
- Low burn rate as bootstrapped solo project
- Customization depth may appeal to niche communities
Risks
- Market is crowded with Gather, Teamflow, and others backed by venture capital
- Pandemic-driven demand for remote tools has cooled significantly
- No clear monetization or pricing strategy mentioned
- Solo founder will struggle with sales and enterprise deals
- Network effects favor incumbents with larger user bases
- Switching costs are low but adoption friction is high
- Unclear if customization and fun factor are enough to overcome inertia of existing tools

The problem of remote team engagement is real but crowded, the solution is technically sound but faces entrenched competitors, willingness to pay is unclear, and one person can build it but scaling requires more.
Value Equation
Dream outcome and how likely it feels, against the time and effort it costs.
The market exists but is saturated with Gather, Teamflow, and others, the pricing model is unclear, and customer acquisition costs for B2B SaaS are high for a solo founder.
One-Person Business
Curiosity pull, identity fit, and a path from free value to paid for a solo creator.
The founder has shipping ability and technical depth but lacks evidence of distribution skill or ability to close enterprise deals at scale.
Viral Frameworks
Hook strength, shareability, and how cheaply it can be tested.
The idea solves a real problem but the founder is competing against well-funded teams in a category where network effects and polish matter heavily.
Builder Lens
Evidence the problem exists, timing, defensibility, and a model that fits on a napkin.
Technically impressive solo execution but the market timing is post-pandemic, the competitive moat is unclear, and the path to $100M revenue is not obvious.

Excessive CAPTCHA challenges degrading GitHub login UX for enterprise users
GitHub's anti-bot protection forces users, especially those with organizational emails, to solve 10 blurry puzzles multiple times, creating an extremely painful and frustrating user experience.

GTA modders tediously manually edit assembly files for modpacks
Creating .oiv modpacks for GTA is tedious and error-prone due to buggy project manager software, forcing manual editing of assembly files.

BreezePDF – Free, in-browser PDF editor
BreezePDF lets you edit, sign, merge, compress, redact, OCR, fill forms, extract tables, and use 30+ more PDF tools — all in the browser, no sign-up. Files never leave your computer.I built it because when people search Google for common PDF tasks, many of the tools they find upload documents to a server. I wanted an option that keeps files local instead.I posted an earlier version on HN last spring: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43880962At the time it only supported a small set of features. Over the last 10 months I rebuilt large parts of it and expanded it to nearly 40 tools, including several ideas that came from comments in that earlier thread. There is also now a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, plus a CLI/SDK for developers.
