I made an emergency page for my family

I have a bad memory and can't memorize some important numbers, so I created this project.I've always been concerned about being without my phone (getting robbed - which is common in Brazil - running out of battery, having it break, etc.), so I decided to create a page that sends SMS messages (LLM-summarized) and emails with more detailed information such as geolocation, IP address, and the full message. It’s a simple page that allows sending one or more messages, with recipients being myself and other people - for example, in case I or they need help or need to communicate something important. The source code is available at https://github.com/skhaz/dokku/tree/main/apps/help

Competition

No competitor data yet

Trend

No signal yet

A personal emergency communication tool that sends SMS and detailed emails when you need help or can't access your phone.

The pain

Real pain points: phone loss/theft in high-crime areas, inability to memorize critical contacts, need for emergency communication without device access. However, these are highly personal/niche rather than universal.

The gap

The gap between personal tool and scalable business is significant. Current solution is a DIY project solving one person's specific constraints. Market alternatives (ICE contacts, emergency apps, medical alert systems) exist but don't address the 'phoneless communication' angle well.

Build angle

Position as 'emergency communication for high-risk environments' (travel, crime-prone areas) or 'offline emergency protocol' rather than general family coordination. Focus on the geolocation + SMS summary angle as differentiation.

Strengths

  • Solves a real, underserved problem in high-crime regions
  • Clever use of LLM for SMS summarization (token efficiency)
  • Includes geolocation/IP data, valuable for actual emergencies
  • Open source builds credibility and community potential
  • Low technical barrier to deployment (appears to use Dokku)

Risks

  • Extremely niche market, appeals mainly to people in specific geographies with phone theft concerns
  • No clear monetization path (B2C emergency tools struggle; B2B requires enterprise sales)
  • Privacy/liability concerns with location tracking and emergency data
  • Regulatory complexity around emergency services in different countries
  • Existing solutions (Life360, Apple Emergency SOS, medical alert systems) have massive distribution advantages
  • Founder motivation appears to be personal utility, not market opportunity
  • No evidence of user validation beyond personal use case
