A web platform for discovering and sharing fiction that treats stories with the same discovery infrastructure the internet built for articles and news.

The pain

Readers who want to find quality fiction online face fragmentation across Amazon, Wattpad, Medium, and scattered author websites. No single place surfaces great stories the way Hacker News surfaces great articles. Discovery is broken.

The gap

The internet optimized for non-fiction distribution (blogs, news, essays) because it's easier to monetize and algorithmically rank. Fiction got left behind with outdated platforms (Goodreads for reviews, Amazon for sales, Wattpad for community). No modern, open-ended fiction discovery layer exists.

Build angle

Start by making public domain fiction easily discoverable and readable online, then layer in user-submitted original fiction with community curation. The hook is solving a real discovery problem, not building another writing platform. Focus on readers first, writers second.

Strengths

  • Addresses a genuine gap in internet infrastructure that's been ignored for 20+ years
  • Public domain library provides immediate content moat and credibility
  • Clear positioning against existing fragmented solutions
  • Low barrier to entry for users (reading is easier than writing)

Risks

  • Unclear monetization path, fiction discovery doesn't have obvious revenue model like SaaS or ads
  • User-generated content moderation at scale becomes expensive and complex
  • Competes against entrenched platforms (Amazon, Goodreads) with massive existing audiences
  • Vague on what makes discovery better than existing solutions, what's the algorithm or curation mechanism?
  • Founder's passion for the problem is clear but business model and growth mechanics are not
