Blockchain interactions are too complex for mainstream users

Users struggle with chains, bridges, and gas tokens; they need mental abstraction so they can declare outcomes without operating blockchain infrastructure.

Abstract away blockchain complexity so non-technical users can execute cross-chain transactions by specifying outcomes instead of managing gas, bridges, and chain selection.

The pain

Users attempting DeFi hit friction walls immediately: selecting which chain to use, acquiring the right gas token, understanding bridge mechanics, managing slippage across chains. A user wanting to swap tokens on Optimism but holding funds on Polygon faces 4-5 decision points before executing. Most abandon.

The gap

Current solutions either stay chain-specific (Uniswap) or require users to learn bridge mechanics (Across, Stargate). No product lets users say 'I want 100 USDC on Optimism' and handles chain/bridge/gas routing invisibly. The abstraction layer doesn't exist.

Build angle

Start with a single high-friction corridor (e.g., Ethereum mainnet to Arbitrum for stablecoin swaps). Build a routing engine that picks optimal bridge + gas strategy. Surface only: source amount, destination amount, time estimate. Hide everything else. Charge 0.5-1% spread. Expand corridors based on volume data.

Strengths

  • Real friction point, user testing will confirm immediately whether people abandon at complexity or price
  • Revenue model is clear: spread on routed volume, scales with TVL
  • Defensible if you build superior routing logic and liquidity aggregation
  • Timing: bridges are maturing; infrastructure exists to build on top of

Risks

  • Bridges themselves are still unreliable (Nomad hack, Poly Network exploit); you inherit their risk and user blame
  • Margins compress fast if competitors (Across, LiFi) add better UX, you're not building the bridge, just wrapping it
  • Regulatory uncertainty on cross-chain routing and custody could kill the model
  • User acquisition in crypto is expensive; unclear if abstraction alone justifies switching from Uniswap
  • Requires deep liquidity partnerships; hard to negotiate favorable rates as a new player
