I build and maintain websites for a handful of small business clients. One of them messaged me asking if I can help with their SEO because they're not showing up high on Google. I can handle the technical stuff fine like page speed, structured data, fixing crawl errors, meta tags. But they want more than that, they want to know why their competitor outranks them, what keywords to target, whether their content is any good etc...I don't have a background in marketing or seo. I've been patching things together using 4 different tools and honestly it's taking more time than the actual dev work. Is there a decent way to handle this as a solo dev ? Or do I just tell them it's out of scope? (To be honest I really need the extra money for this seo work) **Update:** appreciate all the advice here 🙏 I’m gonna keep doing the SEO for them and treat it as a paid learning sprint for me too, it could be a solid extra income stream. I’ve been juggling ahrefs + SurferSEO + Screaming Frog + GSC and it’s too much, I’m gonna switch to SeenOS for most of the workflow and only pull out Screaming Frog when I need a deep crawl

Fly Labs Method
Is the pain real, is there a gap, is it the right time, can one person build it.
This idea targets a real, specific pain point for web developers tasked with client SEO, offering a consolidated, simplified solution to avoid juggling expensive and complex tools. There's a clear market gap and willingness to pay, but the buildability for a solo dev is a significant challenge.
Value Equation
Dream outcome and how likely it feels, against the time and effort it costs.
The market pain and growth are strong, but the complexity of building and differentiating a comprehensive SEO tool presents a significant hurdle for a solo venture.
One-Person Business
Curiosity pull, identity fit, and a path from free value to paid for a solo creator.
This idea has strong problem clarity and creator fit for a solo dev, but the inherent complexity of building a 'simple' SEO tool makes the simplicity and leverage scores lower.
Viral Frameworks
Hook strength, shareability, and how cheaply it can be tested.
Strong target audience and value proposition, but high assumption risk regarding build feasibility and competitive validation for a solo micro-SaaS.
Builder Lens
Evidence the problem exists, timing, defensibility, and a model that fits on a napkin.
Strong demand and clear pain point for a specific user, but defining the narrowest MVP and adapting to future SEO changes are key challenges for a solo builder.

BreezePDF lets you edit, sign, merge, compress, redact, OCR, fill forms, extract tables, and use 30+ more PDF tools — all in the browser, no sign-up. Files never leave your computer.I built it because when people search Google for common PDF tasks, many of the tools they find upload documents to a server. I wanted an option that keeps files local instead.I posted an earlier version on HN last spring: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43880962At the time it only supported a small set of features. Over the last 10 months I rebuilt large parts of it and expanded it to nearly 40 tools, including several ideas that came from comments in that earlier thread. There is also now a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, plus a CLI/SDK for developers.
